Delicious, Easy, Made From Scratch Buttermilk Pie and other Buttermilk Desserts
This buttermilk pie recipe is a mouth-watering, traditional southern custard pie that you are sure to enjoy. The origin of this easy to make masterpiece is from Sister Grace, member of a church we pastored about 15 years ago. Sister Grace was well known as a fabulous cook, one of many in this southern Appalachian congregation. We developed strong ties with Grace's family, and I thought I would pass this great recipe along to the Squidoo readers. I dedicate this lens and the recipe to her memory. If you like old fashioned, southern style, made from scratch cooking, and a yummy treat that will make you the center of attention, enjoy and use this recipe, along with other samplings of buttermilk dessert recipes I have included!
The story of Abram is a vividly detailed picture of the story of faith. It is a journey riveted with potholes, but leading from Abram, the would-be father, to Abraham, the father of a nation and of the Christian faith. Neither picture nor journey is static, but frame upon frame, it relates a tale which is quite like our own.
I see myself sitting with Abram in his tent (see Genesis 15). He is in such a dwelling place with the flap of his tent down. In the imagery of this chapter of Genesis, I can feel his darkness. He is shrouded in gloom; his murky place is thick and heavy with despair. Its pollution squeezes his lungs spiritually as much as any stench could possibly foul the air of a nomad’s dwelling. This is his universe; his life is an utter failure; the dark depression of this tent is a mirror of his dreams and aspirations. We can feel his experience, and it awakens within us, similar emotions of the low places of our life.
Made From Scratch Hot Chocolate - Worth the Effort!
I know most folks just add a little packet of store bought cocoa mix to hot water, and they are happier than a kid in a circus for their chocolate "fix", but there is nothing so delectable as making it yourself. Using your own recipe for homemade hot chocolate produces tasty outcomes that are superior to both using a mix and ordering a cup of hot chocolate from a restaurant or coffee shop. Making the swill from scratch is both quick and easy-anyone can make homemade hot chocolate with their own recipe! This lens will give some of the best homemade recipes available! Try it, you'll like it!
A Glimpse of Jesus In The Bible! Christ, Man of History, Savior of the world!
Who is Jesus to me? Who is Jesus to you? This lens is my tribute to my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. I know I can only scratch the surface, but if I make lenses for myself and Squidoo, I must make at least one completely dedicated to Jesus. Please read it as a part of my personal testimony.
Who is Jesus to me?
He is the First and Last, the Beginning and the End!
He is the keeper of Creation and the Creator of all!
He is the Architect of the universe, and The Manager of all times.
He always was, He always is, and He always will be... Unmoved, Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone!
He was bruised and brought me healing!
He was pierced and eased my pain!
He was persecuted and brought me freedom!
He was dead and brought me life!
He is risen and brings me power over death and the grave!
He reigns as King of Kings and brings me Peace!
The world can't understand him, and their armies can't defeat Him,
The schools can't explain Him, but our leaders can't ignore Him.
Herod couldn't kill Him, the Pharisees couldn't confuse Him, and the people couldn't hold Him!
Nero couldn't crush Him, Hitler couldn't silence Him, the New Age can't replace Him, and neither Donahue, Rivera, nor Oprah can explain Him away!
He is light, love, longevity, and my personal Lord.
All of the words above may not original with me, but it is all my testimony!
SnickerDoodle Christmas Teddy Bear Cookies Lots of Fun! Start a tradition!
Well, Christmas season is here! One of my wife's favorite sweets is the Snicker Doodle. My wife uses a recipe her mom gave her years ago, and we simply love it. She takes the dough and fashions it into teddy bears, and the kids love it, I admit that I do too! It combines the joy of play dough with the yummy of the cookie.
My children are grown, but my wife and I still enjoy tinkering with cookie treats for the season. I remember Barbara collecting our brood each holiday and making some sort of cookie delight. When else, can I say, "I am hungry enough to eat a bear!" This lens will take you through the whole process made from scratch starting with the dough to the eating of sweet Teddy! I am also throwing in many other snickerdoodle recipes, plus some other stuff you won't want to miss!
Join my Bible study on the 'good' vs. the 'evil' eye!
The 'evil' or the 'good' eye
A wave of giggles shifts across the congregation as the ushers hand each attendee a small piece of candy. I say, “Do not eat this candy. I want you to hold it for a while. It will help you remember what I preach this morning.”
“OK, does everyone have a piece of candy?” There is a short pause and I continue, speaking tongue in cheek, “Everyone repeats after me, “Pastor Walt gave me the evil eye, today.” There is a tidal laugh across the church, as they repeat the words. “Now, hold your eyeball candy in your hand and say, “I have an evil eye!” The chuckles begin to die down, as my message begins to penetrate the understanding of the worshipers.
Three initial points:
1. Everyone has an “evil” eye. It is just like the candy you are holding but it is real and spiritual. Spiritually, we all have an evil eye! You may not want to admit it, but you have an evil eye!
2. Everyone has “good” eyes too. Spiritually, we have an evil eye, but we also have good eyes!
3. We have a choice of which eye to use. We can choose not to use our evil eye, and instead use our good eye and be blessed!
Biblical tales from the crypt - A Short Bible Study
With my mind's eye, I journey through several Biblical tales from the crypt. It appears that our present age of reasoning into the twilight regions of deaths, hauntings and ghosts from the past life have not evolved that far from the stories told thousands of years ago. I should add that Jesus Christ Himself taught of a spirit world. However, He did not teach about returning spirits of dead men/women to haunt the dickens from the otherwise calm and reasoned folk; but of angels, fallen and benevolent that can interact spiritually with us. Our Christian God even names Himself, Holy Ghost, to emphasize that part of His Divinity with which our spirits can relate.
The word "spirit" is generally recognized as the vital principle or animating force within living things. The English word spirit comes from the Latin spiritus, "breath", and it has many differing meanings and connotations. So, on some level, we all believe in spirits. The word "ghost" is another rendering of "spirit." In the King James Bible both terms are used to describe 'spirit.' The choice of 'ghost' or 'spirit' as the correct word is made according to the context of the Biblical passages and the background at the time of its writing. Most modern translations simply use the word, "spirit." This is no doubt because the evolution of the term has moved more towards the ghostly, eerie, nature which the word 'ghost' has taken on since KJV times. Regardless, the word has its origin in the idea of "breath" or "wind". God breathed, and man became a living soul with a "spirit" of life within Him; Jesus breathed on his disciples, and said, "Receive ye the Holy Ghost;" When Jesus died, he "gave up the ghost (breathed out His life)."
Having given this introduction, let us now examine the relationships between Jesus' teaching and some of the believed folklore of Bible days.
I just updated this article on the St Paul of the Bible. I include many links for further study and reasons why I think he is second only to Jesus in his importance to the Christian church.

It is often hard to find good Christian writings that carry a punch of real life and yet stay within the framework of real faith. If you love reading like I do, these books will interest, capture, enthrall, and make your reading time pass as if you were in the very time line of American history itself. You are transported through each romance and feel the pulse of every character. At least this was my experience. Read this lens, and see if you think the same fanciful odyssey of emotions might happen to you!
The Criminal Minds TV Show is one of our favorite programs. My wife and I DVR it every Wednesday night, and watch it after church. The genre of police programming is not our first choice, but this one is a big exception. This lens highlights some of the reasons why, and I also include many links to articles, information and trivia that you, the fan, will find interesting and helpful.
"Whosoever trusteth in the Lord,
happy is he."
- Proverbs 16:20
Sister Alline,
Thank you for allowing me to write you as part of my ongoing ministry. I am not a writer, but these articles help me to reach people with the message that God gives me at times. My email list is growing, and if you would like to recommend it to others, I would be honored.
I usually write about once a month, and include several devotions or Bible studies I have finished. If any of these interest you, please feel free to browse and read. If you like, leave a comment so that my other readers may enjoy your input. Putting all my work together (ministry and other stuff) I am receiving about 3000 visits a week. Thank you for allowing my messages into your home.
I am enclosing at the bottom my last email update. This will give you a ‘taste’ of what I do. All praise goes to my LORD.
P.S. Each site contains automatically generated Google adds. They should not be offensive, but I cannot fully control their content. I need them as they help monetize my publications.
Finally, I hope these articles bless you in some way!
I wish you a happy Memorial Day. Isn’t God wonderful to allow us to live and worship in America!
This email is an update on some of my recent internet ministry activities. I have been doing a lot of different things so this is not as much as I’d hoped for, but I pray that it will be a blessing to you and others.
I want to thank you for taking time to browse these writings, and many of you make comments for the help of all my readers.
I introduce this study with an amusing anecdote from my own experience in snake handling! I do not handle them, but I remembered a mountain church, and … well you will need to check it out. Anyway, I speak my thoughts concerning Mark 16 and handling serpents. I also include a short history of snake handling, how it relates to the Church of God, videos and pictures. I hope you find it interesting! (Published May 26 with 23 visits and five comments to date).
The early Christian greeting, Maranatha, was given as a welcome upward for a downward time. “The Lord comes” has several nuanced meanings. This is one of the most beautiful and promising greetings for the Christian! (Published MAY 22 WITH 34 VISITS AND 4 COMMENTS TO DATE.)
This is a fictionalized short story based on real ministry experience. It is not easy to go to the “Dredgy’s” , but in this case a precious soul of an elderly drunkard was saved. (Published May 3 with 37 visits and four comments to date)
Jesus says that I am the salt of the earth – The question I ask in this hub is, “Do I speak with ‘salt.” If food unsalted is tasteless, so is it with our speech. The Apostle Paul uses this metaphor to say, “As salt is to food, there are seasonings (grace) to our speech”. What are its best seasonings? (Published April 27 with 53 visits and 7 comments to date)
Excuses clutter your path like leaves falling in the forests of late autumn. They are so easy to find, and if not, just as easy to invent. One man in the parable purchased a piece of ground, “and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.” The next had bought oxen which had to be yoked to the plow. The third found a wife, “Excuse me.”
One final word.
Thank you for taking time and reading some of these. You all encourage me greatly. I am not a writer, but I enjoy preaching in every way that I can. (Published April 12 with 45 visits and 1 comment to date)

Can You Ever Be Perfect? The Curvilinear Christian Hmmm – I introduce to you in this hub what I am calling Curvilinear Christianity. Curvilinear is simply a compound concept between a curve and a line. The word can be used of anything bounded by a curved line(s). This analogy may be crude and oversimplified, but I believe it describes a Christian life. Curvilinear Christianity simply implies our lives are not straight lines but curved and crooked in an effort to reach maturity in Christ.
